Aurora works at the intersection between academia and humanitarian work ensuring those academics that pursue research (or an alternative career) with vulnerable groups do so ethically.

Our Mission

There are two main strands to our mission

  1. To provide targeted training for early career academics pursuing research with marginalised groups such as refugees or women who have experienced domestic violence. By covering key issues such a Trauma Informed Care, informed consent and interactive (rather than one way) research we aim to create a research climate that is respectful, ethical and mutually beneficial.

  2. To provide placements for doctoral researchers interested in pursuing a post-PhD career in the NGO/third sector. We aim to provide meaningful experiences to support some of the over 50% of PhD candidates who will never work in academia. We help to build a different but equally valuable future.

These training sessions were informative as they were interesting. They provided an excellent intro to the issues surrounding working with people in marginal communities. I would recommend it highly to anyone interested in these issues.
